The pervasive influence of globalisation is undeniable, and a common assertion is that it inexorably leads to cultural homogeneity. While there is merit to this argument, I largely disagree with the notion that globalisation eradicates cultural diversity, believing instead that it fosters a complex interplay of convergence and divergence. One cannot dismiss the visible signs of cultural convergence. The proliferation of multinational corporations, fast-food chains, and global media platforms has indeed introduced a degree of uniformity in consumption patterns and popular culture worldwide. A young person in Tokyo, for instance, might readily adopt fashion trends originating in London or enjoy music produced in the United States. This diffusion of Western consumer culture, often termed 'McDonaldization', can create an impression of a monolithic global culture, eroding unique local traditions and practices. The accessibility of global brands and entertainment undeniably homogenises certain aspects of life.
