While essential services like healthcare and education should undoubtedly be priorities, I believe that investing in arts and culture is equally important for a well-functioning society. The arts contribute significantly to economic growth through creative industries, tourism, and job creation. More importantly, they play a vital role in mental health and well-being, providing people with emotional outlets and opportunities for self-expression. Arts and culture also preserve our heritage, foster social cohesion, and encourage critical thinking. Countries that invest in cultural programmes tend to have more engaged and creative populations. Rather than viewing arts funding as competing with essential services, I think we should recognize that the arts ARE essential — they enrich our lives…
